Are You Using The Wrong One?
Are you using a Direct INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP) or an on-line service such as COMPUSERVE? (now owned by AOL; formerly owned by H & R BLOCK).
If you spend more than ten hours per month on the Internet, and are not using a direct internet server; you should consider doing so, as you will save yourself money, time and gain more internet freedom as a result.
There are Dial-up Servers that DON'T:
UPON REQUEST, AOL gave two months credit; however, it was commonly estimated (by those in the ISP business) to take four to six months for AOL to get the necessary modems built, delivered & installed; And the additional phone fiber (Fiber Optic Cable) lines installed and debuged.
As it turned out, the prediction was correct; that it would likely be the end of summer 1997, before AOL customers received the service for which they paid.
It is Janyce.com's opinion that AOL management knew in advance that their system would lock out tens of thousands of users by announcing the new lower rates prior to equipment installation, but we believe they knew they could get away with millions in unearned money. This turned out to be true.
Not charging by the hour is important for downloading new versions of programs for your computer (such as TUCOWS provides) where downloading large programs can take a couple hours. (BTW tucows is an excellent source for the latest release of beta programs and they have mirror sites all over the world.)
